Majestic Concert Mallets Make a Difference with Details

This fall Majestic releases its new series of concert mallet instruments. The full line of marimbas, xylophones, vibraphones and chimes continues the legacy of craftsmanship expected from Majestic’s enduring 80 year history. Created with the help of master craftsmen and artists, the concert series gives players the best in performance with unsurpassed attention to detail.

“Majestic clearly understands and has addressed many aspects of what is most important for mallet instruments being used in our schools,” describes Scott Brown, Director of Dickerson Middle School Percussion Ensemble (GA). “The sound of these instruments is of the highest level, and the attention to detail and innovation is truly impressive!”

The flagship model of the Majestic concert mallet series is the M8650H five octave professional marimba. With an elegant stage presence and solid construction, it is equally at home in school settings or in the concert hall. The newly designed bar geometry is player friendly, with an appreciation for the demands of contemporary marimba repertoire. Brain Duffy of Janus Percussion explains, “The bar widths and spacing on the low end of the M8650H marimba make it very ergonomic for navigating difficult technical passages without sacrificing power or sound quality.”

The xylophone and vibraphone models also feature details that improve upon traditional design. The X7535H xylophone features long bars of select Honduran rosewood and meticulous quint tuning. The vibraphones use a reinforced fan belt with cogs, a memory gel damper and a wide pedal. Freelance artist Bryan Carrot is pleased with the Majestic vibraphone. “I like the feel of the pedal system, the ease and accuracy of the crank-up height adjustment system, and the overall sturdiness and reliability of this design.”

Rounding out the full series of new Majestic concert models is the widest range and largest selection of chimes, including 22-note models. The chimes use an enclosed damper box to maintain optimal performance of the pedal over time.

“The introduction of the new Majestic mallet instruments is very exciting for us. The quality level complements the longstanding Majestic timpani models, our Mapex Artist and Concert series concert drums, and the Mapex Quantum and Qualifier marching drums,” says Chris Hankes Percussion Product Manager for Majestic. “We now have a well rounded offering of high level instruments to serve the majority of percussion needs for school bands and orchestras of all levels.”
